Proposed Redevelopment ︳Hospitality & Entertainment District
In 2016, a group including Protea principals Yehudi Gaffen and Jeffrey Essakow, along with fellow San Diegan Jeff Jacobs, was selected by the San DIego Unified Port District to enter into an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement for the future redevelopment of 35 acres of downtown San Diego waterfront.
Envisioned to transform the downtown waterfront, the proposed hospitality and entertainment district is currently undergoing environmental review.
The Keystone SDUSD
Proposed Redevelopment ︳Mixed-Use
In response to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) for the redevelopment of a school-owned site in the heart of mid-city San Diego, Protea in collaboration with Malick Infill Development, has submitted a proposal for a unique and innovative community.
This unique public-private partnership will provide much needed workforce housing near San Diego’s hottest neighborhoods.

Proposed Redevelopment ︳Multi-Family Residential
Architectural design is complete for this multi-family residential project centrally located near a multitude of job centers. Potential acquisition of the adjacent site could provide even more development opportunities.
La Jolla Gateway
Proposed Redevelopment ︳Mixed-Use
This site offers a prime location directly across from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) campus. A recent upzoning has dramatically increased the site’s development potential.
